Why you should invest in your bathroom
Since bathrooms are one of the main places in a home subject to wear and tear, we are often called in to undertake a complete bathroom renovation. Because it’s such a small room, people often don’t think about the costs involved in remodeling one. A bathroom is really just like a small kitchen when it comes to the budget. Floor and wall tiles, plumbing, ventilation, vanities and faucets all add up. The good news is that reports show time and again, that money invested in the bathroom is almost always fully recouped when a property is sold.
What can I count on?
As a general rule of thumb, fully renovated bathroom budgets start slightly above $10,000 and can rise from there depending on what needs to be done and what fixtures have been chosen.
In a full renovation, some of the things that normally need to be done include:
- Removal of drywall on the walls and ceiling
- Installation of water resistant drywall
- Removal and replacement of subfloor
- Installation of tile backer board
And if I want more?
Upscale bathroom will cost upward of $20,000 as you amp up the luxury items and the amount of space involved. A few of the things an upscale remodel may include are:
- Expanding the size of the room
- Moving and replacing fixtures like the toilet and tub
- Creating a separate tiled shower wall
- Stone countertops
- Double sink vanities
- Built in cabinetry
- Exhaust fan
- Whirlpool bathtubs
